Barbados is an island country situated in the western area of the North
Atlantic and 100 kilometres (62 mi) east of the Windward Islands and
the Caribbean Sea The largest carnival-like cultural event which takes
place on the island is the Crop Over festival,The festival includes
musical competitions and other traditional activities. The male and
female Barbadian that harvested the most sugarcane are also crowned as
the King and Queen of the crop.It gets under way from the beginning of
July, and ends with the costumed parade on Kadooment Day,The grand
finale of the Crop Over celebration, this public holiday is a summer
street carnival held on the first Monday of August.
Tourist join locals and visitors in the "jump-up", a joyous
celebration and dance through the streets to calypso music .Kadooment Day
symbolizes and marks the end of the sugar cane harvest.the party
continues with more fantastic music, lots of food and drink and, for
some, a quick swim at the nearby beach.Kadooment Day is celebrated with
costume bands filling up the streets with pulsating Barbadian rhythms
and fireworks that ignite the sky.
